Emulsifiers & Thickeners

Fundamental Ingredients for Cosmetics Formulation Texture and Stabilization

Emulsifiers and thickeners are crucial in the formulation of many cosmetic products to prevent separation, ensure a pleasant texture, and improve the delivery of active ingredients. An emulsifier is an ingredient used in cosmetics to bind oil-based ingredients and water-based ingredients together to create a stable, smooth, and consistent mixture. Cosmetic emulsifiers mainly natural derived or synthetic. The type of emulsifier used will affect the final product’s texture and feel. Thickeners are used to increase a product’s viscosity and provide the desired texture, from thick creams to lightweight gels. They can be natural derived or synthetic polymer, sometimes it acts as emulsion stabilization in combination with emulsifier.
